Pump Salon is joining Hairdressers Unlocking Hope, a national fund-raising initiative to replace homes in New Orleans destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The goal is to raise $85,000 by October 31 to build one house for a deserving family, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity®.

Beginning June 11, Pump Salon will offer employees and clients a variety of ways to voluntarily participate:

• Clients will have an opportunity to donate one dollar when checking out, after their appointment.
• Pump employees may contribute five dollars for the privilege of wearing jeans to work on specified "Jeans Days."
• In each employee lounge, employees will make a donation to a "vulgar box" if they are overheard uttering a curse word or gossiping about another employee.
• Customers may purchase a "Key Necklace" made from a key that symbolizes a house destroyed in the hurricane.

Stylists will also be permitted to accept contributions from their clients. Whoever raises the most money individually will have an opportunity to shave the head of Sherry Williams, vice president of operations for Pump Salon.

"I've never gone completely bald, but I'm looking forward to it, because it's for such a great cause," she said.

Hairdressers Unlocking Hope was started by world-renowned stylist Vidal Sassoon, who is known for revolutionizing the styling industry. Many celebrity stylists and competing companies in the industry are also participating. More information about Hairdressers Unlocking Hope is available at www.behindthechair.com.
